These days are set up for children to come out to the Soapbox Derby Track at Ben Hawes and try out Soapbox Derby Racing

The only thing better than announcing a silent disco block party is announcing 6 of them. We are taking it back to the streets the way it started in Owensboro! We have collaborated with The Pub on Second to bring you a calendar full of events. We are all so excited to announce the WKY Silent Disco Summer Series on 2nd street @ The Pub. Headphones will be available to rent for $5. Each pair plays 3 channels of music simultaneously making an experience truly everyone will love! We will be there from 9pm-12am playing music from all genres! Whether you wear your boogie shoes or just looking for great vibes we have you covered! There will be something for everyone.

May 11th is our Super Kids Soapbox Race for special needs kids in the morning and registration for our June Local Race in the afternoon. May 18th -19th is a Rally Race where there will be local racers as well as racers from other areas competing. June 2nd is Impound Day for Local Race and racers will have the opportunity to take trial runs down the track. June 8th is our Local Race where local racers will be competing for the opportunity to represent Owensboro at the All American Race in Akron OH in July. The August, September and November dates are Rally Races where local racers and racers from other areas will be racing to earn points to qualify to go the All American Race in Akron OH.

Live music, food, and family-friendly entertainment

The OCHS Class of 2026 have worked diligently to plan a 5K Run/Walk fundraiser to help fund our class expenses. This race will take place on June 1st, 2024 beginning and ending at Owensboro Catholic High School. This race will be open to all, in hopes of unifying community members in fun and city wide activity. We will have chip timing, and racing bibs and t-shirts will be available for pickup the day before the race. All timing and race results will be uploaded and viewable online. Top 3 in each age group will receive medals along with an overall male and female!

PorchFest is an annual event that invites members of our community together for a day of fun and music. It's a celebration of local talent, showcasing local musicians playing on the porches of houses in the Griffith Avenue neighborhood. PorchFest features lots of local food trucks. Each stage features numerous acts playing their own unique music, from rock to jazz to folk. Neighbors come out to listen to the live music and meet new people in their community. Porchfests are a great opportunity for musicians to perform and for people to mingle with their neighbors. So grab your lawn chairs, come out. and enjoy the music!

The Jeeps and Jamz Expo will be hosting a show and shine for Jeeps only during the expo. Jeeps will be lined up along Veterans Blvd with the stage and awards set up at McConnell Plaza. Food trucks will be staged on the curve of Locust St and Veterans Blvd.

Co-hosted with Shifley-York Neighborhood Alliance is a family fun day at York Park for the residents on the surrounding streets to show our appreciation to them ane acknowledge the inconvenience our presence can be to their park. We will serving grilled hot dogs, chips and water and there will be lots of family-friendly games such as cornhole, hillbilly golf, etc. AND a bouncy house!

2024 OWENSBORO NEIGHBORHOOD ALLIANCE CLEANUP SCHEDULE

 

The Owensboro Neighborhood Alliances will once again host the annual neighborhood cleanups. The cleanups will take place from 6:00 -11:00 a.m. on the dates listed below. All residents in the cleanup areas are encouraged to help beautify the neighborhood by picking up litter along sidewalks and streets on their scheduled cleanup day. Boundaries for your neighborhood alliance can be found at https://services.owensboro.org/maps/citizen-information.

 

The Sanitation Department will provide free curbside pick-up to alliance residential customers for junk furniture, appliances, tires, and other items. Place items curbside by the Friday night prior to your scheduled cleanup. If you have large items, please call CityAction at 270-687-4444 or e-mail cityaction@owensboro.org BY THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE YOUR CLEANUP to schedule a pick-up. Smaller items must be bagged or boxed. Sanitation crews CANNOT collect construction debris/materials, yard waste, dirt, paint, or any type of liquid.

Juneteenth, June 19th, marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, in 1865. Juneteenth on the Ohio River includes music performances, historical reenactments, and cultural festivities. This is the opportunity for the community to come together to honor African American heritage, reflect on the struggles for freedom and equality, and celebrate the rich cultural contributions of African Americans. Juneteenth on the Ohio River serves as a significant and meaningful community celebration that highlights both the historical significance of the holiday and the diversity of local traditions and expressions.

Putt Putt Golf in Downtown Owensboro with drink/food specials at participating holes. Each business will construct a fun and creative putt-putt hole with a shotgun start at Lure Seafood and Grille. There will be prizes awarded to the team with the lowest score (scorekeepers will be at each hole this year), best golf attire voted on by your fellow golfers and as in years past, a surprise award will be given out as well! Feel free to bring your own putter or use the ones provided for you at each hole. Golfs balls provided as well.

2024 OWENSBORO NEIGHBORHOOD ALLIANCE CLEANUP SCHEDULE

 

The Owensboro Neighborhood Alliances will once again host the annual neighborhood cleanups. The cleanups will take place from 6:00 -11:00 a.m. on the dates listed below. All residents in the cleanup areas are encouraged to help beautify the neighborhood by picking up litter along sidewalks and streets on their scheduled cleanup day. Boundaries for your neighborhood alliance can be found at https://services.owensboro.org/maps/citizen-information.

 

The Sanitation Department will provide free curbside pick-up to alliance residential customers for junk furniture, appliances, tires, and other items. Place items curbside by the Friday night prior to your scheduled cleanup. If you have large items, please call CityAction at 270-687-4444 or e-mail cityaction@owensboro.org BY THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE YOUR CLEANUP to schedule a pick-up. Smaller items must be bagged or boxed. The Great Race is a time, speed, endurance rally, meaning the goal isn't to get to the finish line first, but to precisely finish each checkpoint in a pre-determined amount of time. Each vehicle has a driver and a navigator, and the team uses a calibrated speedometer to make sure they stay on schedule, according to the day's route. It's a grand event that turns average car guys into local celebrities, as these classic cars make their way through small towns on their way across the country. Owensboro is thrilled to welcome the Great Race back to downtown in 2024, this time serving as the starting point of the route.

Friday After 5 is the award-winning, summer-long series of free outdoor concerts held every Friday on the eight block, stunningly beautiful Owensboro, Kentucky riverfront. The festival includes live bands, family events, food trucks and entertainment. Our signature “Toast to the Sunset” takes place right on the riverfront at every Friday After 5. There are five venues of entertainment plus a fun, kid-friendly street fair and costume characters. No tickets. No Fees. No Kidding. Friday After 5 is Where the Weekend Begins.
