The City of Owensboro is excited to announce the replacement of Legion Park playground. The project began today with demo work and is expected to be completed by mid-April.  Once completed the new playground will bring some exciting new features to the park!  There will be over 50 different play features designed for use by children ages 2-12.   To give you a sneak-peak of what to expect, listed below are a few play items coming to the park:

 

• Expression Swing - The patented face-to-face design features a bucket seat for children under five and a comfortable adult swing seat that allows a parent and child to interact with each other and to experience one another’s facial expressions while at play.
• Zip Line – Introducing a freestanding Xtreme Play Activity, from GameTime that brings the excitement of a Zip Line course to the playground. This Zip Line will be 75 feet long and will be the first Zip Line on a playground in Kentucky!
• Poured In Place Surfacing – similar to the surfacing found at Smothers Park.
• Fitness Equipment – Placed adjacent to the playground, the fitness equipment will be the perfect complement to the playground and a great way for those who brought children to the playground to stay active and fit as well!  Now workout and watch your child play at the same time! 

 

The project cost approximately $440,000 of which just over $85,000 was received via a grant from GameTime (the playground manufacturing company).  The grant enabled the purchase of the fitness equipment and addition of poured-in-place surfacing over the traditional engineered wood fiber.  The playground was last renovated in 2000.

 

David Williams & Associates Inc. of GameTime is the vendor for the project.  Most recently they have completed the addition of a playground at Old Germantown Park and the renovation of the Kendall –Perkins Park playground.   

 

We ask for patience and tolerance during this exciting new addition. Only the playground will be affected.  The walking trail, tennis court, restroom, shelters and basketball courts will be accessible throughout the project.
