Exciting Holiday Updates in Owensboro: A Bigger and Brighter Hometown Christmas
The City of Owensboro is thrilled to announce the expansion of Christmas festivities in our downtown and riverfront areas. As we transition away from the beloved Holiday in the Park (Legion Park) after many wonderful years, the City of Owensboro will elevate its holiday offerings with an expanded display and festivities for Hometown Christmas.
This year, Owensboro's riverfront will shine brighter than ever before with an increased display of holiday lights. This expansion promises to enhance the festive atmosphere for visitors, offering more opportunities for families to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.
Stay tuned for additional details about what’s new for Hometown Christmas this year as we continue to craft an unforgettable holiday experience in Owensboro.
As part of this exciting transition, the City of Owensboro is proud to partner with the Daviess County Fiscal Court to donate many of the iconic light displays from Holiday in the Park to Christmas at Panther Creek. This collaboration will ensure that these beloved traditions continue to brighten our community, adding to the festive spirit at Panther Creek Park beginning during the 2025 holiday season.
While the traditional light displays will no longer be featured at Legion Park, Owensboro is committed to maintaining holiday spirit at the park. Visitors can expect festive decorations around the shelter houses, along with a beautifully lit tree along the JR Miller side of the park.
The Owensboro Parks & Recreation team is working to spread the holiday cheer across the city. Several other local parks will showcase festive light displays, including Ben Hawes Golf Course, Jack C. Fisher Park, the Parks Administrative Center, and the Edge Ice Center. Additionally, seasonal photo opportunities will be available at both the Edge Ice Center and Smothers Park, offering perfect photo spots to capture holiday memories with family and friends throughout the season. Dates and times for these photo opportunities will be announced at a later time.
The City of Owensboro would like to express its sincere gratitude to the community for its continued support of Holiday in the Park. As the City looks ahead to a new chapter with Hometown Christmas, plans are in the works to bring even more holiday joy to our community. Details on what’s new for Hometown Christmas will be released in the coming week. The City of Owensboro hopes that everyone will come out and enjoy the festive atmosphere that makes Owensboro a truly special place during the holiday season.
