WEST END FOOD ALLIANCE

The City of Owensboro, along with the Audubon Area, Dugan Best and Northwest Neighborhood Alliances, announce the creation of the West End Food Alliance.

Audubon Area Neighborhood Alliance Chairperson Bryant Bell shared his concerns about the lack of food options available to residents in the west end of Owensboro with other west side Neighborhood Alliance Chairpersons, Pastor Todd Camp of New Life Church, Owensboro Health and Tri-State Food Bank. This collaboration led to the creation of the West End Food Alliance, which offers pre-packed food boxes, fresh produce and other items (when available), specifically to the residents on the west side of Owensboro.  The Alliance hosted their second Mobile Food Distribution on Thursday, April 25.  They have previously hosted Pop-Up Produce Giveaways offering fresh, seasonal produce.

“Our mission was to offer fresh produce options to the surrounding senior apartment residents and Housing Authority complexes, along with the many churches and anyone in the west end neighborhood area that needs access to fresh produce and food,” said Bryant Bell.  “The neighbors love the opportunity, and we hope to continue to grow the West End Food Alliance mission and further our support from the community.”

Pastor Todd Camp added “Thursday, we gave out 110 boxes of food.  Food insecurity is real for families as proven by the fact that we ran out of supplies after an hour of serving.  The Mobile Food Distribution and the Pop-Up Produce Giveaways are a picture of neighbors helping neighbors!  It doesn’t matter where you live or how much money you have or don’t have. We are called to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.”

Volunteers from the Owensboro Neighborhood Alliances and New Life Church play a pivotal role in organizing and facilitating the events.  The Mobile Food Distributions are conducted in accordance with Tri-State Food Bank guidelines.
