WINTER STORM UPDATE – STATE DECLARED STATE OF EMERGENCY

The Governor has declared a state of emergency.  The City of Owensboro is a critical part of dealing with such an event and making it safe for our community.  As such, the downtown trolley will stop its runs at 4:15 p.m. today and will not operate tomorrow.

In addition, the following Owensboro Parks Department locations are closing early and will be closed tomorrow:

  • Dugan Best Recreation Center - will be closing at 5:00 p.m. tonight and will be closed tomorrow;
  • Edge Ice Center – Closed tomorrow;
  • No Day Camp tomorrow;
  • Adult Volleyball League is canceled.

The City’s Street Department maintenance crews are working around the clock to keep snow routes drivable.  Please limit travel to a need only basis.  The City of Owensboro asks that citizens avoid parking on streets as this will help expedite our crews’ efforts.  If vehicles must be parked on city streets, we ask that vehicles be parked on the EVEN NUMBERED sides of the street (in relation to house numbers).  The city’s focus will remain on priority 1 and 2 routes until the snow diminishes, these routes are cleared and assets are freed up.  Please visit our website at www.owensboro.org to view a snow removal procedures and priority route map for Owensboro’s streets.  Road condition reports for major routes in Kentucky are available by calling 511 or by visiting the 511 travel and traffic information web site at www.511.ky.gov.

Due to sub-freezing temperatures, a warming shelter will be set up at First Baptist Church (230 J.R. Miller Boulevard, Owensboro, Kentucky) tonight.  The warming shelter will be open from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. with check-in no later than midnight.  Packaged snacks and showers will be provided.  Transportation will be provided at 8:00 p.m. from the Pitino Shelter.  The shelter is also looking for volunteers.  Please listen to local media for further information on the location and times for future warming shelters.  For more information, please contact Harry Pedigo at 270-315-4419.
